Cardinal Health Canada History
Through Cardinal Health Canada’s predecessor companies, our history dates back over 100 years, starting with the foundation of MDS Ingram and Bell in 1905.
In 1997 Allegiance Healthcare Canada, Inc. and MDS Ingram and Bell Inc. combined their Canadian healthcare products and distribution businesses to form Source Medical. The new company, created to address the changing needs of the healthcare profession, served hospitals, laboratories and other healthcare facilities across Canada.
In November of 2005, Cardinal Health acquired MDS’s interest, and Source Medical became a wholly owned subsidiary. It operated as an independent entity in the Canadian marketplace.
In 2011 Cardinal Health Canada acquired Futuremed and Dismed, Canada’s leading value-added distributor of consumable nursing home supplies and specialized furniture and equipment to the growing long-term care facilities sector. This acquisition helped to strengthen Cardinal Health Canada’s position in the long term care and alternate care markets.
Today, Cardinal Health Canada provides an integrated offering of innovative products and services to help hospitals, long term care facilities and alternative healthcare providers meet the growing challenges of a dynamic industry.
